Man… music is the greatest medicine one ever needs. if I feel tired or frustrated, there’s nothing better than some Ramones or Pearl Jam, it just makes me come alive, get back on track or awakens some wholesome anger that I can use to propel my life, it gives me life!, and it doesn’t asks anything in return, well you might have to pay some dough to get it first, but for the most part most music is free, (…and this is something I’ll write an article latter on, so come back…) in all matters it’s totally worth paying for it anyway, to get some good ol’ riffs to get your butt going, your blood hot and scream like a new born baby…
On the other hand, if you your attitude ailment is that of loneliness or heartbreak or even depression. Music is like audio homeopathy, some Nine Inch Nails or old Depeche Mode -get more of the same poisonous vibe and somehow you get some kind of revelation -inside the frequency of some of the most depressing music, it exists information on a whole different level that somehow it helps you understand on an intrinsic level what is it that you’re experiencing, what is it that you’re living and why you’re going through whatever you’re going through… it’s true shamanic magic.
I remember on my teens I was livin’ some very challenging experiences and somehow Pearl Jam was the torch that guided me through, I mean all of this quassy-spiritual stuff, the white robes, shaved heads and incense burning, I tell you… want to know what is a spiritual experience?, -listening to Alive for 100 times over and over again, it just brings you down to the basics; what the heck I’m doing here?, how did I made it?, and yet I’m here… I’m Alive!!… It doesn’t get more spiritual than that, I’m Alive man!.
And how about some good ol’ Sting, the same vibe but refined, it’s like an explanation of the subtle things that we only perceive when we shut up the head. Sting works like charm to get you inspired on being great, on being meticulous, organized and still kicking some serious butt. Sting is my medicine for Love, it helps me get my trust on Love back on, like the gentle caress of my lover reassuring that everything is alright and that everything is just the way it is supposed to be, to just do your thing, with all your heart and never doubt that you’re right on, dive into the darkest pit with your heart wide open… and if you die, then you died with honor, you died alive, It was a life worth living and no one can take that away from you… and if you live… you made it man… you made it!!
Now, you get yourself some John Williams, or John Powell and you realize that music is no mamsy pamsy… the whole thing is springboarded into a totally different reality, now you dive into and surrounded in a whole different universe created by these people. It makes you realize that indeed there are greater things in life that whatever you’re going through, that there are worlds made up of genius and that that same genius is inside of you, that it is accessible just by reaching out of a life of complacency, a life of compromising and all you need to do is die… die to the idea of being cool… die like a squeezed slug on the road, and when you’re dead in your: -I’m I good enough? stuff, then you’re really free to kick butt, because now you’re not under the spell of the poor little me, like Janis Joplin would say: “Freedom is just another word for nothing left to loose”… there’s nothing that can stop your genius to shine, and then you shine baby!!
If you take a close look at every Rock legend out there, everyone of them was faced with this choice and they all died, died to the mediocre within, and were resurrected as a Legend of Rock!!!
Yeah man, I’m inspired and I hope you’re too, I hope you make music like you’re dying tonight, and if you’re a listener then rock in your own thing sister/brother do your thing whatever it is and shine… shine baby shine!!
You can do it!!
-Peace ya all!
